OUR kitchen & Gardens
Our cooks have been cooking with love and for people from all across the world for many years. They are lovely ladies and we all work together on creating a menu and selection that is tasty and nourishing. Most dishes are Indonesian and consist of locally available ingredients. We source organic fruits and vegetables where possible, and we always cater for vegetarians. You'll also find seafood and chicken on our menu. All your meals are buffet and you can come back time and again until you are deeply satisfied :~)
We get most of our produce from Jakarta and the nearby areas - including a few small organic farms. It's important for us to know where our food comes from, and to know that our vegetables and fruits are grown organically and with lots of love. It's important for us to know that the fish and chicken that we serve have been looked after and prepared with the proper care. The ingredients of the food you eat while you stay with us have been carefully selected.
Bu Pai, our head cook, heads to our neighborhood market in Jakarta to find the best local produce. We have a strict no MSG policy, and we do our best to source local, sustainable foods where possible and practical.
One of our most important objectives is to grow as much food and medicine as possible on our islands. We have found some knowledgable folks to help us with our difficult mission of growing produce on small islands, and we're experimenting with different methods of composting and growing edible plants that can be used by our team and our guests.
Most of our food is vegetarian friendly. We can cater to vegan diets with some advance notice. If you have allergies or other dietary restrictions, please get in touch with us and we will do our best to figure out if we can cater to your needs.
Besides the air you breathe, it's the liquids that you drink that are super important. While on islands, it's important to stay hydrated so we provide water in all of our rooms and in our public areas too. At our self serve counter in the clubhouse, we also have hot ginger water, coffee, tea, and cocoa. In the mornings we also offer juice and milk.
Out on the sundeck you'll find our little driftwood bar where we also serve a selection of beverages for order. When available, we have fresh coconuts, super food smoothies, beers, wines, spirits and cocktails.
Growing food on our gardens has been a challenge since the very beginning. Small island agriculture isn't easy with all the sand and saltwater. We started out by composting our food wastes, and have experienced some success with aloe vera, ginseng leaves, cassava, chillies and eggplants.
In 2016 we are expanding our gardens significantly with the help of a permaculture expert so that we can grow more of our fruits and vegetables onsite, as well as some herbs and spices.
